In Spring 2009 Michele released a new recording
entitled "Due North." These compositions
create an instrumental landscape of travel and imagery.
Michele wrote these songs prior to her visit to
Ireland. She painted a musical picture about a seafaring
crew navigating the rugged west coast of Ireland.
This music goes beyond Ireland to explore the melting
"Antarctic Shelf" shown on many nature
television programs describing the polar bears swimming
a little further each year to reach land. In another
song she imagines "Sipping Vodka" during
the cold winters in Russia. These orchestrated scores
takes the listener to many places
whether it
is a walk in the "Countryside" or traveling
on an unstoppable "Steam Train."
Due North is not only about travel
destinations but also how the mind can wander through
music. After all, Michele wrote this music before
even leaving her home. These compositions demonstrate
how anyone can take a journey by just thinking about
a world beyond his or her backyard.
Due North is also symbolic of Michele's
internal compass being more grounded than ever before.
Michele has embarked on a new direction in music
full of voyages and exploration.
